AFL, a leading manufacturer of fiber optic cable and accessories, received the BB&T Lighthouse Beam Safety Award for Excellent Safety Performance.
This award is presented to companies in South Carolina that have achieved:
Workers' Compensation Policy Loss Ratio between 0% - 10%
Workers' Compensation Experience Modification (EMR) 0.84 and below
BLS/DART/OSHA Recordable Incident Rates 15% below industry average
"We are very proud to receive this award. All levels of the AFL organization are committed to safety," said Doug Hoffman, EHS director for AFL. "This award is based on incident rates and insurance costs. We are not at zero injuries yet, but the injuries that have occurred, fortunately, have been minor."
BB&T Insurance Services, AFL's insurance broker for workers compensation, instituted the Lighthouse Beam Occupational Safety Award program which is designed to help clients promote the prevention of client workplace injuries and illnesses. Recognition is provided based on overall safety performance and the implementation of effective safety policies and procedures.
"AFL is an exemplary company given the high standards it sets for safety performance," said Chandler Griffith, vice president of BB&T-CIC Insurance Services. "Only four other companies in the state of South Carolina won the award in 2011."
"Excellent Safety Performance" is the highest ranking a company can achieve. BB&T reviews all companies and those that rank the highest are selected for the award.
