AFL's Fiber Security™ is a fiber optic perimeter intrusion detection system (PIDS) comprised of a vibration sensing unit, optical couplers, an approach cable and a proprietary sensing cable. These components, together with AFL's detection algorithm combine to deliver outstanding intrusion detection at both the zone and location level; enabling security teams to assess and respond to alarms. The heart of Fiber Security™ is the dual wavelength detection system that utilizes a fiber optic ring to monitor the fence line. When a vibration associated with an intrusion occurs the vibration disrupts the beam path. This disruption is analyzed by the detection algorithm, compared to intrusion patterns and when a match is registered the system generates an alarm, identifying the location of the intrusion attempt. Beyond the ability to detect vibrations caused by perimeter intrusions, the system constantly monitors background noise and automatically adjusts detection thresholds to maintain sensitivity while screening out changes in background noise such as wind or rain. Perimeters can be divided into as many as 100 zones and the sensitivity for each zone can be set independently. Fiber Security™ has 100 dry contact outputs to interface with analog camera systems and is IP configurable for newer cameras. The sensing cable can be configured with additional fibers to interface with peripheral sensors and camera systems to create multiple layers of perimeter security. A single Fiber Security™ system can protect up to 3.1 miles of perimeter fencing (>350 acres) from a distance up to 6.2 miles away, remote monitoring via Ethernet access is also available.
