Adding to AFL's long heritage of providing the most competitive solutions, in 2012, AFL introduced the LZM-100. Developed and manufactured by AFL in conjunction with Fujikura, AFL's LZM-100 LAZERMaster is the first commercially available glass processing and splicing system that uses a CO2 laser heat source to perform splicing, adiabatic tapering and other glass-shaping operations. The LZM possesses large diameter capabilities up to 2.3 mm and long tapering capabilities up to 150 mm.

The LZM-100 utilizes proprietary (patent-pending) closed-loop power stabilization techniques, resulting in power stability within 0.5 percent, enabling highly repeatable processes and very smooth taper profiles. In addition, by using the carbon dioxide heat source, repeatable performance is ensured and electrode/filament maintenance and instability is eliminated. The clean, deposit-free fiber surface and consistent results is essential in high power fiber lasers and power delivery systems, making the LZM-100 ideal for technically-advanced markets such as medical, military/defense, industrial and more.

Industry experts understand that successful splicing begins with a good cleave, an area where Fujikura trully outpaces the competition. ARCMaster fusion splicer components are integrated for streamlined use. Using a patent-pending split-V-groove clamping system, the positioning system delivers unprecedented versatility for splicing large diameter fiber (LDF), heat sensitive or small diameter fiber. By calibrating the electrodes inside the splicer, the fiber is spliced in a flat, uniform manner for low loss.

Fujikura's revolutionary fiber imaging technology, Interrelation Profile Alignment (IPA), alignment and splicing capabilities are possible with virtually any polarization-maintaining (PM) fiber type. Longer fiber tapering application is possible with Fujikura's Sweep Arc technology. Incorporating profile alignment system (PAS) using cold fiber image and warm image technologies, the optical analysis system delivers improved loss estimation capabilities, fiber image performance with large or small diameter or heat sensitive fibers.
