AFL Announces OFL280 FlexTester in Best in Test Competition

2/3/2011

Spartanburg, SC – AFL announces that its latest product, the OFL280 FlexTester, has qualified as one of three finalists for "Best in Test" network and fiber-optic testers. Recognized by Test & Measurement World magazine, the OFL280 multifunction test set better equips network service providers while combining flexibility and high efficiency with utmost accuracy.

"I am thrilled that AFL's FlexTester has been chosen as a finalist for 'Best in Test.' We know this product offers the unmatched quality and durability needed to complete even the most rigorous fiber optic test functions," says George Rose, General Manager of the Test and Inspection Division. With the proven performance of the FlexTester, "We are very positive about the possibility of winning 'Best in Test.'"

The OFL280 FlexTester integrates the functions of a high-resolution fault locator and a high-dynamic-range OTDR (Optical Time Domain Reflectometer) used to trace troubleshooting problems. The tool also includes a PON (Passive Optical Network) OTDR, an optical power meter, a stabilized light source, and a visual fault locator (red laser), weighing an impressive 0.8 kg (1.7 lbs). In addition, the OFL280-103 model combines the functions of a dark-fiber OTDR, a live-fiber OTDR, and PON power meter on a single test port. The OFL280 FlexTester uses a single network connection to verify FTTx network power levels and perform fault location on customer fibers.

The OFL280 FlexTester is a fan-free design that offers a high-contrast display that is readable in direct sunlight, while integrated into a rugged, non-slip case, making the OFL280 FlexTester most unyielding to outside elements.

AFL encourages those familiar with the OFL280 FlexTester to vote. Polls close February 28, 2011.
