AFL Presents $13,000 Fujikura Foundation Grant to the Greenville Children's Hospital

Spartanburg, SC – AFL associates representing the Fujikura Foundation presented a $13,000 grant to the Greenville Hospital System, Children's Hospital in support of psycho-social support programs for the BI-LO Charities Children's Cancer Center. The funds will allow the Center to continue teen and bereavement support groups and establish an adolescent support group for pre-teens.

The support groups are facilitated by the psycho-social staff of the BI-LO Charities Children's Cancer Center and support the teens, adolescents and their parents as they journey through treatment and survivorship concerns following the diagnosis of childhood cancer or serious blood disorders.

The teen support group provides an opportunity for peer interaction for teenagers and their parents. The teen group is led by a Child Life Specialist and the parents meet separately with a social worker. The teens also spend time together outside of the Center going to movies and other recreational outings. The bereavement program supports parents who are adjusting to life without their child. Parents benefit from being supported by others who truly understand and can help them deal with issues involved in the grief process.
