AFL Presents United Way of the Piedmont with $90K

Spartanburg, SC – AFL executive management and AFL United Way campaign ambassadors presented a check for $90,000 to Kathy Dunleavy, president and CEO of United Way of the Piedmont, and Monica Cothran, campaign director. This year's United Way campaign at AFL netted an increase of 33% in employee contributions and a 42% increase in company-wide contributions over the previous year. In addition, 2011 marks the largest increase in campaign contributions since AFL's 2007 campaign.

"Our associates really stepped up this year," commented Corie Culp, public relations manager of AFL. "The increase in donations shows the true spirit of our associates. We are proud to support United Way of the Piedmont and the agencies they serve, and making a difference in the lives of citizens in our communities."

AFL kicked off its campaign with a corporate contribution of $7,500. Goals were set and communicated and the campaign went into motion. As ambassadors were recruited internally and given the responsibility to inform and engage others within AFL, many opportunities were presented to involve associates at various events, keeping them informed and educated about United Way including an agency fair and carnival. To further enhance the campaign, AFL matched, dollar for dollar, all monies donated over last year's employee contributions.

"Each year we set campaign goals, providing a challenge to our associates," said Sherise Brown, Human Resources Director. "As our goals steadily increase, our pledges do as well – year after year. This year, we exceeded our goals – beyond what we ever dreamed we could. We're excited about the success of our campaign, but we're even more excited about the benefit to our community."
