Greenville Family Partnership Recipient of $5,000 Fujikura Foundation Grant

Spartanburg, SC – AFL announces that the Greenville Family Partnership (GFP) received a $5,000 Fujikura Foundation Grant to support its Hispanic-parenting initiative. The support includes translating and developing resources in the Spanish language.

"As the Hispanic population in Greenville County has increased so has the need to develop and provide parenting for Hispanics," stated Judy Flichtbeil, DFC/Grants Manager. "And it goes beyond the language barrier. Cultural differences lead to misunderstanding between the parent and child in many Hispanic families. This grant will enable us to have the resources to move this program forward."

The Hispanic-parenting program is a response to the recognized need to educate Hispanic parents about substance use. GFP is uniquely qualified to provide this programming. Not only has GFP been providing quality research-based programming for several years, they are an independent, community-based organization that is equipped to respond.

Supporting Greenville Family Partnership equates to supporting the future of our community – "our children," said Corie Culp, community relations manager for AFL. "We're excited to provide this grant to help them reach out to the Hispanic population, and educating them about substance abuse."

Greenville Family Partnership's mission is to keep kids off tobacco, alcohol, drugs and other harmful substances by educating and partnering with families and communities. Initiated in 1984 through a group of parents seeking do whatever they could to keep youth off drugs, the organization has grown and seeks creative and research-based methods to achieve this mission.

Programs include general awareness regarding alcohol, tobacco and other drugs aimed at high-risk youth; parenting classes to help teach vital parenting skills and encourage proper parental involvement; anger management classes; among many others. For additional information, visit
