AFL Presents $111,000 to United Way of the Piedmont

AFL, a leading international fiber optics company headquartered in Duncan, SC, concluded its 2012 United Way campaign last week. The company’s associates set a new record in giving this year collectively pledging $111,000 to the United Way of the Piedmont. The gift exceeded both AFL’s campaign goal of $100,000 and its gift of $90,000 to the United Way of the Piedmont in 2011. Participation for 2012 was up 25 percent, and overall associate giving was up 23 percent.

This year’s United Way campaign at AFL offered associates a number of ways to get involved and learn more about the important work of the United Way of the Piedmont. One highlight of the campaign is an outside lunch featuring representatives from 18 United Way agencies. At this themed “Baseball Week,” event, Reedy Rippet from the Greenville Drive entertained guests.

“For this year’s campaign, we focused on making the campaign more personal, incorporating entertaining elements, said Corie Culp, community relations manager at AFL. “The associates at AFL have a terrific track record of stepping up to a challenge. Even with an aggressive goal, our associates definitely understood the need in our communities. Their generosity is truly impressive!”

United Way is a key component of AFL’s multi-faceted Community Outreach Program. The program also includes grants, AFL Community Team (ACT) projects, sponsorships, Take Root (a program to provide trees to communities), disaster relief and a yearly Week of Service.
