AFL Presents Middle Tyger Community Center with $10K Grant

The Middle Tyger Community Center (MTCC) is the recipient of a $10,000 AFL grant to support MTCC’s family counseling and play therapy program. The funding will be used to provide the service fees associated with the sessions for children and/or families that have little or no ability to pay for these services. In addition, portions of the funding will allow the play therapist at MTCC to offer a certification program for other counselors.

“The need for mental health and counseling services for children and their families is critical in our community,” stated Wanda Fowler, Executive director of Middle Tyger Community Center. “By focusing on therapy for children, the project will impact the range of opportunities that at-risk children can access so that they can experience success in school, family and community activities.”

The Family Counseling and Play Therapy Center provides specialty care for low income families. The Center offers a place where children, adolescents and their families can be seen for mental health services including individual therapy, family therapy and play therapy.

“The Middle Tyger Community Center has been instrumental in bringing positive changes to our community,” said Corie Culp, community relations manager for AFL. “This grant is one more way that we can support the Center and aid in its mission, ultimately helping at-risk children and bringing together families.”

The mission of MTCC is to create healthy families by developing solutions to the problems identified in our community and fostering collaboration among agencies, people who want to help, and those who need help. For more information on the Middle Tyger Community Center, visit
