British Red Cross Recipient of Grant AFL Community Outreach Program

Margaret Harman, HR and EHS Manager of AFL Swindon, presented a grant to Joanne Riches, CBFA and Resilience Coordinator of the British Red Cross, worth $3,000 (£1,890-72). The grant is part of AFL’s Community Outreach Program and will support teaching school children life-saving skills that build confidence and help them cope with a first aid emergency.

“On behalf of AFL and the AFL Community Outreach Program, we are delighted to be able to make this contribution towards the work of the British Red Cross, which we know to be a cause which many of the team at AFL are keen to support,” said Margaret Harman

Swindon has a high level of young people who are home alone after school or looking after siblings. Students will learn how to recognize and treat an unconscious casualty as well as treat burns, bleeding and broken bones. Students will also have the opportunity to practice treating an unconscious casualty and learn to use daily items to help treat various medical emergencies.

Joanne Riches CBFA & Resilience Coordinator said:  “First aid education for all is an ongoing plan within the British Red Cross. We are working with schools to deliver first aid education throughout the County. We will also endeavour to raise funds to continue first aid education in schools; this is the reason we appreciate the continuous support we are given by businesses such as AFL.”
The British Red Cross helps people in crisis, whoever and wherever they are. The Red Cross is part of a global network of volunteers and staff, responding to conflicts, natural disasters and individual emergencies. They help citizens in the UK and abroad prepare for, withstand and recover from emergencies in their own communities.
