AFL Canada Presents $7,000 Grant to Support JDRF

British Columbia, Canada and Spartanburg, SC – AFL, a leading global fiber optics manufacturer and service provider, presented a $7,000 grant to JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation) Canada in support of the TELUS Walk to Cure Diabetes, an event that provides individuals diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes (T1D) the opportunity to come together and raise money for research to cure, treat and prevent T1D.

The grant will specifically target JDRF’s efforts to accelerate solutions for management, care and a cure of T1D through its Canadian Clinical Trial Network (CCTN). The JDRF CCTN is dedicated to conducting and improving advanced clinical trials, providing people with T1D access to the latest breakthroughs, and creating a partnership between researcher, nonprofit organizations, industry and government to accelerate prevention, improved treatments and a cure for Type 1 diabetes.

The AFL Community Outreach Grant was presented to Chris Lowe, regional manager for the TELUS Walk to Cure Diabetes.

“JDRF has an ambitious plan for the future of T1D research. As better treatments unfold and the prospect of curing this disease rests on the horizon, we remain committed to directing more resources to launch and sustain innovative research and clinical trials from coast-to-coast,” stated Lowe.

With over 300,000 Canadians and as many as 3 million Americans living with Type 1 diabetes, JDRF is committed to removing the impact of T1D from people’s lives and ultimately achieving a world without this disease. JDRF is aware that delivering a cure for T1D is a long-term goal, but the foundation is determined to invest in the Canadian Clinical Trial Network until this goal becomes a reality.
