AFL Grants $2,000 to WOW Trail in Laconia, NH

AFL Grant GivingBelmont, N.H. and Spartanburg, S.C. – AFL, a leading global fiber optics manufacturer and service provider, presented a $2,000 grant for the WOW Trail of Laconia in support of its trail expansion. The WOW Trail provides a safe, alternative route for runners, bikers and walkers of all ages to stay active. AFL’s grant will help fund the construction of Phase 2 of the WOW Trail. The grant was presented to Gretchen Gandini, executive director of the WOW Trail.

“The WOW Trail is currently 1.3 miles in length and has fast become a unifying landmark and point of pride for the city of Laconia,” said Gandini. “A completed WOW Trail will contribute significantly to the vitality of our community.”

The WOW Trail is named for the three lakes it will one day showcase—Winnisquam, Opechee and Winnipeasukee. Once completed, the WOW Trail will attract an estimated 152,000 users and is expected to bring in 38,000 users from out of town, which could bring in at least $1.8 million in new visitor spending each year. The WOW Trail is dedicated to promote, design, build and maintain the nine-mile rail trail through the city of Laconia as a part of the regional rail trail network that will one day connect the town of Meredith, NH and the city of Franklin, NH.

“By supporting the WOW Trail, we are committing to the health and safety of our community as we do our associates,” said Sean Adam, general manager of AFL’s Test and Inspection division. “We are excited to see the trail come to fruition and are equally proud to be a part of it.”
