AFL Receives South Carolina Manufacturers Alliance Safety Award

AFL Receives SCMA Safety AwardSpartanburg, S.C. – AFL, a leading global fiber optics manufacturer and service provider, was presented with the 2014 Safety Performance Recognition Award on behalf of the South Carolina Manufacturers Alliance (SCMA) at this year’s South Carolina Safety Summit in Columbia.

The award recognizes last year’s safety accomplishments of AFL’s Hidden Lake Plant which manufactures conductor accessories and AFL’s Ridgeview Center Plant which manufactures fiber optic cable. In addition to these awards, the Hidden Lake plant received recognition as having worked 18 years without a lost workday incident, ranked among the top three SCMA members.

Environmental, Health and Safety Manager, Don Heatherly represented AFL as he accepted the award. “AFL is committed to the continual improvement of our safety performance and will continue to hold environmental, health and safety objectives as high priorities in executing our annual business plan,” stated Heatherly. “We will always be dedicated to enhancing the safety of our associates and the environmental well-being of our community.”

The SCMA Safety Award is granted each year to firms that have exemplified remarkable safety strategies and maintained first-rate environmental, health and safety standards. Qualifications of the award include a rate of incidents resulting in lost workdays, job transfers or restrictions that is lower than the statewide average for their North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) code.
