AFL Recipient of Commendation of Excellence Award from South Carolina Chamber of Commerce

AFL Receives Safety AwardSpartanburg, SC – AFL, a leading global fiber optics manufacturer and service provider, was the recipient of the South Carolina Chamber of Commerce Annual Commendation of Excellence Award. The award recognizes the successful safety records of firms and their associates who have had an outstanding Lost Workday Case Rate over the last year. Jessy Phillips, Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) specialist, accepted the award that honored AFL’s Hidden Lake, Ridgeview and USAC manufacturing facilities at the Chamber’s Annual Safety Awards luncheon.

“AFL holds itself to the highest health and safety standards and will never compromise EHS safety values for profit or production,” said Don Heatherly, EHS manager of AFL Spartanburg Operations. “We want to ensure the constant safety of our employees, clients and members of our community and eliminate safety risks by implementing our environmental, health and safety objectives in our business plan each year.”

The Commendation of Excellence Award acknowledges the achievements of companies who have demonstrated dedication to improving their safety standards each year resulting in a lower rate of lost workdays. The outstanding safety precautions taken by these companies help eliminate work-related injuries and illnesses that cause associates to be unable to work a complete shift.

The South Carolina Chamber of Commerce’s Safety, Health and Security Committee is dedicated to assisting the Chamber members to achieve a safe and secure work environment, providing a variety of training programs to stay in compliance with safety and health matters and providing input while reviewing proposed legislation.
