AFL Showcasing CO2 Laser Splicing and Board Level Optical Connectivity at Photonics West 2018


Spartanburg, SC – AFL, an industry-leading manufacturer of fiber optic cable and accessories, is exhibiting at SPIE Photonics West and showcasing its newest lineup of fusion splicing and connectivity products. Visit Booth #2125 to see the new LAZERMaster™ Laser Splicing System, the enhanced specialty LDF cleavers plus board level optical connectivity and specialty fiber. Additionally, AFL associates are presenting at several paper and poster sessions.  

AFL’s newest product, the LZM-110A+ LAZERMaster™ Laser Splicing System is a splicing and glass processing system that uses a CO2 laser heat source to perform splicing, tapering, lensing and features fiber ablation. This new system splices on endcaps and creates ablated cladding mode stripping in one process. Demos will be provided in AFL’s booth and a group demonstration will be held Tuesday, January 30 at 1:00 p.m. in Demo Area 2 (Hall D North). Fujikura LDF Cleaver

The Fujikura LDF Cleaver series will also be featured at Photonics West. With the ability to cleave 80 μm to 1.25 mm diameter fibers, flat and angled, the cleaver’s programming features allow for optimal and consistent results. The newly updated firmware, 01.010a, includes a special cleaving function that makes a small score on the surface of the fiber, increasing the tension until the fiber breaks. Stop by AFL’s booth to see demos.

Board level optical connectivity solutions for ultra-fast networking and high performance computing equipment will be showcased. These products link embedded optical modules to the card edge, blind mate mid-plane connectors and backplane solutions. Additionally, specialty optical fiber will be on display. Ideal for harsh environments, specialty applications, polarization-maintaining and communications fibers as well as Fujikura’s unique specialty fiber components and assemblies for medical, laser and harsh industrial applications.
