AFL Test Equipment Products Honored by CI&M 2018 Innovators Awards Program

Lowell, MA and Spartanburg, SC – AFL, a manufacturer of fiber optic cable, connectivity and equipment, was recognized by the judges of the annual Cabling Installation & Maintenance Innovators Awards program for its Multi-Fiber Identification System (MFIS) and FOCIS Duel Fiber Optic Connector Inspection System. AFL was honored with a silver-level award for both products, in recognition of a level of innovation that has resulted in not just incremental improvement, but in marked improvement over previous products used.

FOCIS Duel is a field-ready, handheld digital inspection microscope offering optimal LC connector analysis performance to reduce fiber handling operating costs (OPEX). FOCIS Duel is the world’s first fiber inspection probe with two optical ports, one intended for fast subjective patch cord end-face inspection, with the second port supporting all the comprehensive features of AFL’s award-winning FOCIS Flex inspection system. FOCIS Duel features female “plug-in” connector adapters, which facilitate rapid end-face inspection operation, and the LC adapters mechanically accommodate the duplex LC connectors commonly used in data centers.

MFIS (Multi-Fiber Identification System) is an easy-to-use and innovative product family that assures operators of continuity in multi-fiber network construction build-outs quickly, accurately and efficiently. The MFIS test system is used during and after multi-fiber network construction to give operators confidence and peace of mind with respect to fiber network documentation accuracy.

“AFL is grateful to Cabling Installation & Maintenance for recognizing the innovation embodied in the FOCIS Duel inspection system and the MFIS multi-fiber network continuity assurance system.  AFL works hard to deliver the highest level of value to our customers, and it is gratifying to see those efforts acknowledged through these awards”, said Seán Adam, General Manager of AFL’s Test & Inspection Division.

Alan Bergstein, publisher of Cabling Installation & Maintenance (cablinginstall.com) said "This prestigious program allows Cabling Installation & Maintenance to recognize the most innovative products and leaders serving the structured cabling industry. Our 2018 Honorees are an outstanding example of companies who are making an impact in the industry."

The judging panel consisted of cabling and communications system specifiers, designers, integrators and managers with vast professional experience.
