Structured Cabling Installation at Charlotte Plaza

Summary

AFL provided a Cat6 structured cabling network infrastructure within a single floor of a high-rise office building in downtown Charlotte, NC. The installation consisted of approximately 750 plenum-rated Cat6 cables going to various offices, cubicles and in-ceiling (Wi-Fi access points) locations.

Challenge

The client had a firm move-in date for newly hired personnel to start working in this location. Construction delays required AFL to work with a continually changing time schedule. Client requirements included:

  • more pleasing aesthetic appearance without power poles in the workspace,
  • raised flooring system with under-floor cabling in the main telecommunications closet, and
  • overhead cabling in the work areas.

Interior design elements presented a challenge for cable routing. Modular furniture further complicated the cabling pathway.

Solution

AFL used existing columns to route cabling down to the work areas. Toward the end of the project, AFL worked around the clock to meet the client’s tight schedule. Working closely with the electrical contractor and the modular furniture contractor on the project, AFL ensured the client was satisfied with the final product.

Results

The client was very pleased with our performance and ability to meet the tight time constraints. The final product met their goals and the client has recommended AFL to their other business partners. Our follow-up service helps maintain a good relationship with this client including replacement of a faulty switch. When the client expands to the floor above this location, AFL has the technical expertise and experience to provide that installation as well.
