AFL Presents $22,000 in Community Outreach Grants to Local Nonprofit Organizations

9/29/2014

Spartanburg, SC – AFL, a leading global fiber optics manufacturer and service provider, presented $22,000 in community outreach grants to four nonprofit organizations in the upstate. Made possible by AFL’s Community Outreach Program, the grants support each organization’s community initiatives.

AFL awarded $8,000 to the Middle Tyger YMCA in support of its “Partners with Youth” Campaign geared toward providing financial assistance for low income families. This grant provides free enrollment to children for the YMCA’s Summer Day Camp program and will continue to provide membership scholarships for the YMCA’s after school program during the 2014-15 academic year.

AFL presented $5,000 to the Julie Valentine Center in Greenville County in support of its clinical therapeutic program for children who are victims of sexual and physical abuse. AFL’s donation will help support the services of a qualified and experienced therapist to help children and their non-abusive caregivers work through their traumatic experiences and find physical and psychological safety and well-being.

AFL provided a $5,000 donation to the Upstate Family Resource Center in Spartanburg to support its Emergency Savings Plan program called Saving Up! This first-year program will identify low income families with the ability to save a minimum of $300 and provide them with financial advising and a monthly dollar-for-dollar matching incentive every month for 12 months if they save at least $300. AFL’s donation will help fund the Family Resource Center’s dollar matching incentive and provide $10 gas vouchers to families who accept appointments with their financial advisors.

AFL granted a $4,037 donation to the Meyer Center for Special Children to help fund renovations to their facility’s meeting room. AFL’s donation will be used to help the Meyer Center gain access to new technology and equipment for upgrading their meeting room so that they may continue to provide quality education and therapy services to preschool children with disabilities as a means to enrich and maximize their lives.

AFL has an extensive Community Outreach Program that includes grants, ACT projects, sponsorships, Take Root (a program to provide trees to communities) and disaster relief. For more information, visit www.AFLglobal.com.
