Spartanburg, SC – AFL, a leading global fiber optics manufacturer, and Habitat for Humanity of Greenville County, dedicated a Habitat for Humanity home in Greer, South Carolina, June 28. The ceremony marked the completion of AFL’s four month building project which commemorates the company’s 30-year anniversary. The project was financed through AFL’s Community Outreach Program and was built by AFL volunteers, friends and family.

“To see this site start with its foundation and over time to be built into this home with the efforts of hundreds of volunteers is an inspiring experience,” stated Corie Culp, community relations manager for AFL. “As we celebrate AFL’s 30th anniversary, we are humbled and thrilled to be able to give back to our community in such a big way.”

The Habitat project, which began construction in March, is AFL’s largest ACT (AFL Community Team) project to date. The project consisted of 18 days, nearly 250 volunteers with 550 shifts, and approximately 4,250 volunteer hours.

Habitat Greenville’s branch President and CEO, Monroe Free, thanking AFL for the dedication to the project, stated, “Habitat is thrilled to have been able to partner with this outstanding company that does so much for the upstate community.” Free introduced the Crichlow family, who were presented with the key to their new home and other gifts, including a Bible, a tool box and quilts created for each family member by the Nimble Thimbles Quilt Guild.

Barbara Martin, development director for Habitat for Humanity of Greenville, commented, “Thank you, AFL, for changing the future of the Crichlow family through affordable homeownership and for 30 years of business!"

AFL’s Community Outreach Program consists of grants, ACT (AFL Community Team) projects, sponsorships, Take Root (a program to provide trees to communities), disaster relief and more. For more information about AFL and its community impact, visit www.aflglobal.com.
