AFL’s Volunteers Choose Program Awards $20K in Grants Internationally

Spartanburg, SC – AFL has awarded nearly $20,000 to nonprofit organizations around the world through its Volunteers Choose program. The initiative allows associates who volunteered for a company-sponsored outreach program last year to vote for an organization of their choice to receive the annual grant. AFL companies in South Carolina, Georgia, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Canada, Mexico, Germany and the United Kingdom participated in this program.

In Europe, the Wiltshire Air Ambulance in Swindon, U.K. was awarded $1,000 to provide helicopter emergency medical service through Wiltshire County and beyond. Zornröschen in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany was awarded $350 to provide counseling to children and adolescents who have been victims of sexual violence and abuse.

Casa Hogar Imperio de Amor in Nuevo León, Mexico was awarded $4,100 to provide care for and promote the healthy development of children who come from domestic abuse and other unfavorable situations. Make-A-Wish International was awarded $1,450 to help grant the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy.

Westborough Senior Center in Westborough, MA was awarded $500 to help promote social, recreational and educational activities and provide advocacy and assistance to Westborough’s senior citizens and their families. Families in Transition in Manchester, NH was awarded $500 to help provide innovative, comprehensive, and effective programming to help homeless individuals and families reach beyond the cycle of homelessness and lead healthy and successful lives.

Finally, A Child’s Haven and the Cancer Association of Spartanburg and Cherokee Counties, Inc. were awarded a combined $11,750. A Child’s Haven provides therapeutic intervention and prevention services for families and their young children who experience developmental delays. The Cancer Association provides quality of life services to residents facing challenges of cancer through screenings, education and direct services without cost to their clients.
