Structured Cabling System Provides State-of-the-Art Technology for New Children’s HospitalAFL is providing a Cat6 structured cabling system (SCS) to support the new 630,000-square-foot and 95-bed Nemours Children’s Hospital. The hospital serves as the core of a 60-acre pediatric health campus featuring a children’s clinic, emergency department, diagnostic and ambulatory programs along with education and research centers.

Challenge

Nemours is one of the nation’s leading children’s healthcare providers. Built in Lake Nona, Florida (near Orlando), the hospital is a state-of-the-art medical facility that will have several critical information systems interconnected via the Category 6 SCS and fiber optic backbone system. The construction schedule and budget are both very aggressive and requires extensive project management on AFL’s part.

Solution

AFL has designed an enhanced structured cabling system that delivers voice telephony, data, audio, video and security via low voltage devices. BICSI-certified technicians and installers, in conjunction with AFL’s BICSI RCDD, have diligently worked to install Category 6-4 pair UTP cable, patch panels, workstation outlets, fiber optics, racks and cabinets.

Results

With this structured cabling system, Nemours Children’s Hospital has building control and management throughout the hospital and from building-to-building along designated demarcation points to outlets located at various desks and workstations.
