Voice and Data Equipment Cabinet Relocation Project

Printable Version (pdf - 79kb)

AFL provided the solution and manpower to relocate a strategically-positioned equipment cabinet that was a critical component of the facility’s data infrastructure. ATI Allvac, an Allegheny Technologies company, is a world leader in the production of nickel-base and cobalt-base super alloys, titanium-base alloys and specialty steels for the aerospace industry.

ATI Allvac’s production plant operates a 24/7 schedule that did not allow for halting work or a system shutdown. AFL was presented with the challenge of relocating an existing equipment cabinet that contains data switches without interrupting or jeopardizing life safety systems, plant operations and production.

AFL accomplished this challenge with seamless communication and planning with ATI Allvac’s information services technical personnel and management team. An audit of cable pathways and existing fiber backbone terminations and labeling was performed and documented. System information was compiled, reviewed and discussed as part of the implementation plan for moving the cabinet and its data equipment. Existing fiber backbone cables were fusion spliced to new fiber backbone cables and extended to the new equipment cabinet location.

The equipment cabinet was relocated safely and securely without interruption to the plant’s operation and production schedule. The cabinet and equipment are physically protected and fit very well logistically and aesthetically within the confines of their facilities. The expertise and skill set of AFL technicians combined with the flexibility of its operations department enabled AFL to successfully complete the project.
