Communications Solutions for Service and Content Providers

AFL helps industry leaders satisfy the demand for reliable broadband services anytime, anywhere. Service and content providers are rapidly migrating to next-generation networks to meet customers’ insatiable demand for reliable broadband services on all devices. This on-demand network must be flexible and scalable enough to support new technologies and applications.

The key players in the industry have been rapidly upgrading the delivery method by investing in new ways to deliver larger packages of video, voice and data. With the widespread demand and deployment of high-speed internet access gaining popularity in homes and businesses, pay TV companies, internet service providers and telecommunications companies find fibre optic cable an ideal solution because it delivers high bandwidth, distortion-free data transmission.

Great strides are being made to meet the evolving needs of the industry. AFL is at the forefront, working closely with the biggest names in the business, providing products and services to help deliver voice, video and data to end-users. AFL delivers numerous solutions for service and content providers, including:

  • Outside and inside plant fibre optic cables
  • Aerial fibre optic cables
  • Indoor fibre optic enclosures
  • Outdoor and underground fibre optic enclosures

  • Fusion splicing systems
  • Test, inspection and cleaning products
  • Coarse and dense wave division multiplexers (WDM)
  • GPON active equipment

Regardless of the challenges faced in service provider applications, AFL provides a cost-effective, reliable solution. Companies trust AFL for leading technology that provides end-to-end solutions, including engineering support, custom designed cables, accessories and hardware.

AFL’s Loose Tube fibre optic cables are designed for outdoor use in telecommunications networks. The large variety of cable designs, including metallic and non-metallic armour, high strength and reduced diameter cables, provide long term network reliability and durability.
  • Fibre type options including G.652.D, G.655, and G.657.A1
  • Suitable for direct burial, or installation in conduit or tray
  • Termite resistant nylon sheath
  • Rodent-resistant armouring options

Aerial Cables

AFL’s family of aerial fibre optic cables is ideal for installation in all telecommunications networks. AFL is uniquely positioned to provide a full line of all-dielectric self-supporting (ADSS) aerial cables, Optical Ground Wire (OPGW), and customized solutions and supporting hardware and accessories.

AFL's ADSS® cables are ideal for placement on overhead transmission or distribution towers, and are designed to withstand high wind, moisture, corrosion, ice and electromagnetic interference (EMI). They are also fitted with armoured jackets to withstand high mechanical stress.
  • Designed for installation on distribution and transmission lines
  • Can be installed in close proximity to conductors if security is a concern
  • Suitable for underbuild applications, minimizing the need for outages

Spider Web™ Wrapping Tube Cable

AFL’s Spider Web™ wrapping tube cables are the latest in fibre optic cable technology, ideal for highly efficient network installations in tight spaces. Flexibly optimised for mass deployment using ribbon splicing or single fibre splicing, the cable suits all outside plant service provider applications.
The unique design achieves the lowest possible cable diameter while the completely dry design minimises cable preparation time. Using Spider Web™ wrapping tube cables, service providers can reduce the fill rate of expensive conduit and sub duct, reduce deployment time, and minimise shipping costs.
  • Smallest possible cable diameter
  • High fibre count designs
  • Splice as ribbon or single fibre

Pre-terminated Cable Assemblies

AFL manufactures a comprehensive range of high quality pre-terminated cable assemblies in our modern manufacturing facility in Melbourne. They can be made with a variety of connectors and cable types to produce virtually any combination.
Our pre-terminated cables are ideal for carrier inside plant deployments, eliminating the need for onsite termination. This makes installation fast and easy, ideal for access to facilities under strict time conditions. Our assemblies feature:
  • Loose tube, riser and micro-core pre-terminated cables
  • Specialty assemblies for FTTA and FTTH
  • High-quality factory-terminated connectors
  • Traceable, standards-based testing procedures
  • Fibre protection products for installation and hauling

Pigtails and Patchcords

AFL manufactures and stocks a broad range of factory terminated and tested fibre optic patchcords and pigtail assemblies. Featuring high-quality, machine-polished connectors for consistent low loss performance and interferometer tested geometry compliance, AFL pigtails and patch-cords offer low loss repeatability and intermateability.
Our national branch network and large stock holding ensures a prompt ex-stock turnaround. For custom manufactured assemblies our Melbourne based facility provides rapid manufacture and delivery. Where access to networks needs to be restricted, AFL’s keyed or secure connectivity solutions provide access controlled optical circuits or tamper-proof connectivity.
  • Low insertion and return loss
  • Traceable, standards-based testing procedures
  • Machine polishing ensures highest quality connector terminations and performance
  • Large stockholding of cable and connectors for fast turnaround of custom assemblies
  • Tamper proof or access controlled options

Enclosures and Cabinets

Service providers require enclosures that are flexible, reliable and cost-effective. AFL offers a large range of enclosures and cabinets specifically suited to service provider applications in indoor and outdoor environments. We also design custom solutions for specific applications. Our enclosure range includes:
  • Aerial and underground enclosures for a range applications
  • FTTx distribution cabinets and hubs
  • FTTx access enclosures for aerial or underground deployments
  • Wall, rack and DIN rail mountable enclosures

Fibre Passive Devices

Demands for bandwidth on service providers are at an all-time high, and continue to grow. For many providers, these bandwidth demands offer new opportunities to provide higher-speed services over their existing networks. The key to capitalizing on these opportunities lies in minimizing the investment required to service them, which is why many service providers rely on AFL for the latest in flexible and cost-effective passive network solutions to support network growth opportunities.
AFL’s fibre passive devices enable service providers to deliver more services over their existing optical fibre infrastructure by increasing the utilisation of each fibre. Available in a range of form factors including rack, cassette, wall, DIN rail mounted and underground, our fibre passive devices are flexible enough for any application.
Our range consists of:
  • Passive dense and coarse wave division multiplexing (CWDM & DWDM)
  • Optical circulators
  • Optical splitters and couplers
