AFL Volunteers Choose Grant Recipients, Award $25K

Spartanburg, SC – AFL, a leading fiber optic manufacturer and provider of services, presented several grants in honor of their 2017 volunteers. Known as the “Volunteers Choose” program, associates who volunteered in the previous year were able to vote on a grant recipient for 2018. Nine organizations around the world were recipients of this annual award totaling $25,400 including:
SAFE Homes Rape Crisis Coalition (SHRCC) – awarded by South Carolina volunteers, SHRCC assists victims of sexual assault and domestic abuse.
Hope Remains Ranch – also awarded by South Carolina volunteers, Hope Remains Ranch tied for first place. The Ranch is an equine therapy provider that offers a range of treatments to promote physical and emotional growth.
ADANEC – awarded by Monterrey, Mexico volunteers, ADANEC is an organization dedicated to high level healthcare for children from low income families.
Thames Valley Air Ambulance – awarded by Milton Keynes, UK volunteers, Thames Valley Air Ambulance is an organization that provides life-saving emergency medical services to Berkshire, Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire.
The Jimmy Fund (Pediatric Oncology) – awarded by New Hampshire and Massachusetts volunteers, the Jimmy Fund solely supports Boston's Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, raising funds for adult and pediatric cancer care and research to improve the chances of survival for cancer patients around the world.
Uplands Community Enterprise – awarded by Swindon, UK volunteers, this organization supports local residents with learning difficulties and/or complex needs. The CEC provides life changing opportunities for young people by developing independent living and working skills.
Insel Tobi – awarded by Mönchengladbach volunteers, Insel Tobi is a palliative medical unit of the Mönchengladbacher Hospital Neuwerk for chronically ill children.
Good Friday Appeal – awarded by Australian volunteers, the Royal Children’s Hospital Good Friday Appeal is an annual fundraising activity held in Melbourne to support the lifesaving care and ground breaking research of the hospital.
Vision House – awarded by Light Brigade® volunteers, Vision House provides life-changing transitional housing, support services and child care to help break the cycle of homelessness for homeless families with children.
“Our associates go above and beyond giving back to their communities each year,” commented Corie Culp, community outreach manager for AFL. “They are committed to making an impact and continue to seek ways to reach out to children and families. So much so that it’s become a part of our culture.”
Volunteers contributed nearly 2,400 hours of volunteer time in 2017, equating to approximately $58,000 of value to the nonprofit community.
