Heatshrink Splice Protectors AFL’s range of splice protectors ensure excellent mechanical strength and environmental integrity to a single fibre fusion splice. They also maintain excellent fibre optic transmission properties after splicing, that would usually occur from pressure points and micro bending. They are well suited for joining all types of loose tube and tight buffered cables containing 250 μm and 900 μm fibres in most types of splice cassettes. Features • Clear outer heatshrink material for easy viewing of the fibre during the shrinking process • Stainless steel inner rod for maintaining proper alignment and rigidity • Over hanging outer sleeves and hotmelt adhesive lining, ensures adequate protection against humidity and dust ingress which could affect the fibres integrity over a period of time • Open ended assembly minimising possibility of air entrapment during shrinkage Technical Specifications PARAMETER SPLPROT-HS-2.5/62 SPLPROT-HS-3/45 SPLPROT-HS-2.5/45 SPLPROT-HS-2.4/45 SPLPROT-HS-2/45 Overall length of tube 62 mm 45 mm 45 mm 45 mm 45 mm Length of stainless steel rod 59 mm 44 mm 42 mm 42 mm 42 mm Diameter of stainless steel rod – "B" 1.2 mm 1.4 mm 1.2 mm 1.0 mm 0.8 mm Height after shrinking – "C" 2.55 mm 3.0 mm 2.55 mm 2.4 mm 2.0 mm Height before shrinking – “C” 3.40 mm 3.9 mm 3.40 mm 3.40 mm 2.70 mm To suit fibre diameter – “A” 250 μm - 900 μm Recommended bare fibre length 10-16 mm 10-14 mm 10-14 mm 10-14 mm 10-14 mm Shrink temperature 100°C – 120°C Heating time 30-45 seconds 1 Cooling time 20-30 seconds 2 Material Polyofelin cross linked hot fusion tubing with hot melt adhesive 1. This time would depend on the type of splicing machine and length of splice protector being used. 2. It is strongly recommended that the splice be allowed to cool down when removed from the oven. This will allow the adhesive to set and makes installation into a splice cassette easier.
