(NFPA) Requirements for Optical Cables in Transit Applications

Safety is one of the highest priorities when it comes to deploying optical cables in transit and rail systems. Not only are these networks supporting the operation of trains but also the people who use them. Many different considerations should be looked at when making decisions.

Fire prevention, especially in confined areas such as underground tunnels or stations, is extremely important. Making sure the optical cables are flame-retardant and contain low smoke generation characteristics are desirable when you place them in small, confined areas.

The NFPA 130 addresses many challenges specific to transit and rail systems and should be accounted for when installing the right cable. Are you interested to learn more about the NFPA 130 requirements and how AFL's cables are meeting them? You can find it in this application note.
