AFL Supports the Upstate of South Carolina with $82,000 in Grants
Spartanburg, SC | July 25, 2022 | AFL, an international manufacturer of fiber optic cable, equipment and accessories, is presenting nearly $82,000 in grants to 12 nonprofit organizations in the Upstate of South Carolina. Made possible by AFL’s Community Outreach Program, the grants support the focus areas of STEM Education, Youth Development and LEAP (Life Enrichment & Advancement Programs).
The following organizations received grants this cycle:
The YMCA of Spartanburg received $10,000 to provide scholarships for children to attend Summer Day Camp, Afterschool Programs, and a drop-in care program.
Hub City Farmer’s Market received $3,000 for its Youth Farm Program which will support summer and fall internships at HCFM’s urban farm.
YouthBASE was the recipient of a $2,500 grant for its After-school Educational Intervention program which serves at-risk children who are referred by teaches as below-average grade level.
Pendleton Place was the recipient of $4,500 to help purchase kitchen appliances for its Emergency Youth Shelter.
The Boys & Girls Clubs of the Upstate received $5,000 to support expenses for its students to attend various field trips.
The Hope Center for Children received a $8,000 grant for its Clinical Support Services program. Funds will support training for therapists.
The South Carolina School for the Deaf and Blind was the recipient of a $8,000 grant for a program called, “Lighting the Fire.” Funds will be used to purchase equipment and supplies necessary to build a new chemistry lab.
The Roper Mountain Science Center received $5,000 for its Environmental Science Learning Labs. Funds will help purchase a MicroEYE DISCOVERY high-definition microscope.
The SC Governor’s School for Science and Mathematics received $7,500 for STEM Summer Camps including GoSciTech, CREATEng and iTEAMS Xtreme. Funds will provide financial aid for students to attend camp.
The Middle Tyger Community Center was the recipient of $15,000 to help supplement counseling fees beyond the sliding scale to support clients. Funds will support a minimum of 300 counseling sessions.
The Children’s Cancer Partners of the Carolinas received $10,000 for the Carolinas Childhood Cancer Safety Net program which supports children and families on a micro/basic life needs level.
United Ministries received $2,950 to help provide shoes and school uniforms for homeless youth in Interfaith Hospitality Network families.
