AFL Issues Inaugural Corporate Responsibility & Sustainability Report

Spartanburg, S.C. | January 4, 2024 | AFL released its first annual Corporate Responsibility Report. The comprehensive report formalizes AFL’s long-standing commitment to responsible and sustainable business practices while focusing on establishing environmental stewardship, social responsibility, and governance (ESG) outlines additional goals for this year and beyond.

As detailed in the report, a strategic imperative of AFL is to invest in the three facets of corporate responsibility – Environment, Social, and Governance (ESG) – while keeping financial performance and customer experience a top priority.

Key report initiatives and highlights are as follows:

  • Completed inaugural materiality assessment to inform priorities, goals, and execution strategy for AFL's Corporate Responsibility program. 
  • Launched formal ESG Committee with representatives from multiple functions. 
  • Set Scope 1, 2, and 3 Greenhouse Gas targets in line with Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) guidance as well as energy, waste and water targets.
  • Partnered with EPA ENERGY STAR program to support our climate strategy.
  • Raised $776,000 for our communities through the Imagine That! Campaign.
  • Volunteered over 1,500 hours during UNITE, our annual month of service.
  • Achieved continuous decline of injury rate over last 8 years.
  • Invested heavily in data security and privacy with new technologies, bolstering security operations, third-party support, and training.

In 2021, AFL began its ESG journey by forming a task force to develop a program that captures existing initiatives and identifies areas of opportunity to address the growing expectations of both our internal and external stakeholders. This report covers AFL’s fiscal year 2022 (April 1, 2022 – March 31, 2023)
