AFL Introduces High-Temperature Connectors to Accelerate Electric Utility Grid Modernization
SPARTANBURG, S.C. | April 28, 2026 | AFL, an industry-leading manufacturer of fiber optic cable, equipment, accessories and related services introduces its family of High-Temperature Connectors, designed to help electric utilities expand system capacity and improve operational flexibility without major infrastructure replacement.
Designed for continuous operation up to 250° C—far above the traditional 90° C rating, these connectors enable utilities to safely upgrade existing infrastructure while maintaining reliability and ease of installation.
AFL's High-Temperature Connectors are engineered for high-voltage service and are corona free, eliminating the electromagnetic discharge that can degrade hardware and signal interference in transmission and substation environments.
High-Temperature Connectors:
- High-Temperature Bolted Bus Supports for Cable (Type 33800 EHV-HT and Type C2SWB-V-AA-HT): Single and double cable supports are designed to be corona free up to 500 kV service.
- High-Temperature Bolted Terminal and Tee (CFTL-N-V-AA-HT and TCL-N-V-AA-HT): Designed for 345 kV and 500 kV operations, these connectors are corona free when used with AFL pad covers to shield terminal hardware.
- High-Temperature Bolted Terminal Connector (APT-N-V-AA-HT): Designed for multiple connections with various spacing options, these connectors are corona free for 345 kV and 500 kV operations when used with AFL pad covers to shield terminal hardware.
AFL continues to invest in high-temperature accessory development to support utilities preparing for future load growth. As industry standards, such as the ANSI C119 family evolve, AFL is committed to collaborating with utilities, engineers and standards bodies to advance safe, reliable high‑temperature system designs.
